About Us

At our core, the Burrito Challenge is a mission of love, rooted in faith and dedicated to serving our brothers and sisters in need throughout Wichita, Kansas. We believe that in every person we encounter, we meet Christ, and we are called to serve with compassion, dignity, and joy.

Every Saturday at 9:00 a.m., we gather at the southwest corner of Broadway and Central, in the parking lot of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Week after week, whether in the cold, the heat, the rain, or the snow, we are there. Not because it is easy, but because love calls us to be present.

By God’s grace, we now serve between 150 and 200 people each weekend, and the need continues to grow. What we offer is simple, but meaningful: burritos, water, cookies, and other food items, along with clothing, shoes, socks, and hygiene essentials. But beyond these material needs, we offer something even greater, a moment of encounter, a listening ear, a smile, and a reminder that each person is seen, valued, and loved.

This mission is not just about feeding the hungry, it is about sharing God’s love in a real and personal way. It is about restoring dignity, building relationships, and walking with those who may feel forgotten. Through small acts of kindness, we strive to bring hope into the lives of those we serve.

We are able to continue this mission because of the generosity of our volunteers and supporters. Every act of service, every donation, and every prayer becomes part of something much bigger than ourselves. Like the miracle of the loaves and fishes, God takes what we offer and multiplies it to reach many.

We invite you to be part of this mission. Come serve, come give, or simply come be present.

Together, we can love God by loving our neighbor, one person, one encounter, one Saturday at a time.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me…”

Our Story

Our Story

Founded in 2022, the Burrito Challenge was born out of a personal encounter with God that inspired a deeper call to serve others. After experiencing a spiritual awakening during a retreat, our founder felt moved to give back and to respond to God’s love by reaching out to those most in need.

Around that same time, a close friend shared a simple but powerful testimony about bringing burritos to people experiencing homelessness. That witness planted a seed. What if something small, something simple, could make a real difference?

At the time, there were only five people in the office at Family First Insurance Alliance. During the Christmas season of 2022, our founder invited them to take part in a simple mission to go out and serve. It became a challenge among them. Each person was invited to step out, prepare burritos, and personally encounter those in need. That is how the name “Burrito Challenge” was born. It is not just about the food, but about challenging one another to love, to serve, and to step outside of comfort to meet Christ in others.

What was meant to be a one-time act of service quickly became something much more. That first encounter opened their eyes to the deep need in the community and touched their hearts in a profound way. It was no longer just about giving food. It became about connection, dignity, and love. After seeing the need and experiencing those encounters, they simply could not stop. What began as a Christmas initiative became a weekly mission.

Today, the Burrito Challenge serves the Wichita community every Saturday, reaching 150 to 200 people each week. Rain or shine, in the heat, the cold, or the snow, we are there because love calls us to be present. Each week, we go beyond providing food. We offer clothing, shoes, socks, hygiene items, and most importantly, a sense of dignity, hope, and human connection to our brothers and sisters in need.

This mission is rooted in faith, compassion, and a deep desire to encounter Christ in every person we serve. Like the miracle of the loaves and fishes, God continues to take what is offered and multiply it to feed many.

The Burrito Challenge continues to grow because of hearts willing to serve and hands open to give. Together, we are not only meeting physical needs, but restoring dignity, building relationships, and bringing the light of Christ into our community.

Join us in this mission. Together, we can make a difference, one encounter, one act of love at a time.
